Department Makes Drug Arrest

The Winston County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant on a residence at 202 South Street on Thursday (June 20). Deputies discovered a quantity of maijuana and made an arrest of Michael Dismuke at the scene.

The Department's drug dog "Cade" was instrumental in the search. Officers recovered roughly a pound

Sheriff Offers Additional NRA Handgun Class

Back by popular demand, the Winston County Sheriff's Office along with the Citizen's Advisory Board and the Board of County Supervisors will be sponsoring another NRA Handgun Class on July 27.  Class size is limited to 25.

No Open Carry in Winston County Courthouse

The Winston County Board of Supervisors adopted the following county ordinance in its regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, June 17:

It shall be unlawful for any person to openly carry or brandish a firearm on the grounds of the Winston County Courthouse unless said person is a duly designated law enforcement officer or unless the person has the express permission of the Winston County Sheriff and/or the Winston County Board of Supervisors.

Any person found in violation of this ordinance after being forewarned is to be taken into the custody of the Winston County Sheriff or his duly appointed deputy and delivered to a Justice of the Peace of Winston County where if found guilty of this ordinance said person is to be guilty of a misdemeaner crime comparable to unlawful trespassing.

Sheriff's Department Adds New Staff - The Four Legged Variety

The Winston County Sheriff's Department recently added a new deputy to its staff - and he works for little more than room and board. Cade, a labrador mix, joined the force on May 24 and along with his human partner, Deputy Jimmy Lovorn, has already become an integral part of law enforcement in the county.
