Sheriff Offers Additional NRA Handgun Class

Back by popular demand, the Winston County Sheriff's Office along with the Citizen's Advisory Board and the Board of County Supervisors will be sponsoring another NRA Handgun Class on July 27.  Class size is limited to 25.
Instructor will include Jonathan Peeples, Certified Instructor along with assistance from Sheriff Department staff.  Cost is $75 - this covers NRA booklet, targets, refreshment, etc.

Class begins at 8:00 am at the Winston County Annex Building for classroom instruction. Lunch is on your own and afternoon training will be at the Winston/Choctaw Correctional Facility shooting range for live shooting of  70 rounds.

Participants must bring the following:

  • Notepad and pen for notes
  • Personal handgun - unloaded.. This handgun will be inspected for safety puposes prior to being allowed on the firing range.
  • 70 rounds of appropriate ammunition
  • Ear plugs
  • Shooting glasses or prescription glasses if needed
  • Proof of medical insurance
Pre-registration and Payment must be completed at the Sheriff's Office in the Courthouse.
  • $75 cash or check
  • Make, model and caliber of handgun to be used
  • Proof of medical insurance
  • Complete a form listing emergency contact and phone #
  • Must sign a release of liability form releasing Winston County, Sheriff, WCCRCF and instructors from any liability damages.

Completion of this class qualifies for an enhanced concealed carry permit. These permits are issued by the Ms. Highway Patrol and are subject to background check and approval.
